On 5 September 2026, his 67th birthday, Laurens “Lau” had his last working day. He worked as a mover for the same company for more than 48 years, and these days that is quite exceptional.

Lau started at C. Pot Removals in Waalwijk on 20 May 1978. Thousands of moves followed, along with three company names on the truck and dozens of colleagues. Lau himself stayed put all that time. In 2003 Nouwens Removals from Tilburg took over C. Pot. In 2023 Nouwens and C. Pot became part of Oomen Group. Lau simply stayed on and came along. In total he worked for us for no less than 48 years and 3 months. Many people change jobs every few years nowadays, so you hardly ever see a career like that any more.

Skilled at every kind of move

Lau was a craftsman in the broadest sense of the word. He moved private customers with just as much care as businesses. Even on the heaviest jobs, such as relocating industrial machinery, he knew exactly what he was doing. Young colleagues learned a lot from him, and customers noticed straight away that they were dealing with someone who had truly mastered the trade.

Colleagues will miss his character most of all. Lau was always positive, always up for a laugh and hardly ever ill. With him on the truck, a long day felt a lot shorter.

A farewell that suits him

An ordinary farewell reception did not feel like enough for Lau. On his last working day, all our colleagues from the Tilburg branch drove past his house with the complete fleet. A removal truck stood ready there with a large banner: “Lau, enjoy your well-deserved retirement!” It showed the logos of C. Pot, Nouwens and Oomen side by side, so his whole career could be seen in one picture. In that truck we picked him up for his last ride to the depot.

We finished work a little earlier that day. Together with colleagues and family we celebrated his retirement at the depot, and the party went on until late.

Thank you, Lau!

Lau, thank you for more than 48 years of dedication, craftsmanship and good humour. You have helped many customers with their move, and now it is your turn to enjoy yourself. We wish you a fantastic retirement, with all the time in the world for your family and for everything you still want to do. Enjoy it!
