Housing associations: storage and moves during renovation

In a renovation or sustainability project per block or street, residents need somewhere for their belongings for a while. Oomen Verhuizers & Opslag takes several homes into storage at once. Each household goes into its own container at the home, which stays sealed in our warehouse until the home is ready. After the work we put the contents back at the same time.

Per block or street: with several truck combinations at once
No transloading: the container we load is the one that comes back
Packing on request: for residents who cannot do it themselves

What we do

What Oomen takes care of in a renovation project

With us, a renovation project consists of the parts below. We pack on request.

Collecting the contents

We collect several households a day, with several truck combinations at once. That way a block or street is empty at the agreed moment.

Storage without transloading

Each household gets its own container, which is closed at the home and stays sealed in our climate-controlled warehouse. Nothing is transloaded, so the risk of damage or loss is small.

Room for large volumes

Oomen is the largest in storage among moving companies. Our automated storage warehouses hold more than 1,000 containers.

Putting everything back

When the block is finished, we bring the contents back at the same time and put everything back in the home.

How it works

A renovation project in five steps

From the schedule per block to putting the contents back.

1

Survey and schedule

The project manager agrees with the housing association and the contractor which homes need to be empty when.

2

Quote and relocation plan

The quote follows the survey. After approval the project manager writes the relocation plan: the order per block, the dates and who does what.

3

Packing

Residents pack themselves, or our movers do it if that has been agreed.

4

Collecting and storing

Teams led by a foreman load each household into its own container. The containers go sealed to our storage.

5

Putting back

After the work we return the containers and put the contents back in the home.

Planning and quote

Planning with the association and the contractor

We plan eight weeks ahead. For a project in phases we fix the dates per block, so the contractor knows when a home is accessible. If the contractor's schedule shifts, we shift along where we can. At short notice there is often still room.

What we need for the quote

  • The number of homes and the addresses per block or street
  • The contractor's schedule per phase
  • How long the contents stay in storage
  • Whether residents get help with packing

During a renovation, residents' belongings have to leave the home for a while so the contractor can work. Oomen Verhuizers & Opslag collects the contents per block or street, stores them in containers and puts them back after the work.
