Visa or residence permit
Switzerland is a Schengen country and not a member state of the European Union. Because of this, you can simply cross the border of Switzerland without needing a visa. However, when you move to Switzerland you must have a residence permit. The residence permit must be registered with a local office within 8 days of arriving in Switzerland. Getting a residence permit is not difficult. To qualify for a residence permit, you must prove that you can support yourself.
